I am writing with urgency to ask you to immediately reach an agreement on government funding and end the ongoing shutdown. Every additional day of inaction deepens the crisis for hardworking people in our communities and forces families to make impossible decisions about how to keep food on the table.

Federal employees have already lost income, with many only receiving partial paychecks. Federal contract workers, including cafeteria staff, custodial teams, and security personnel, are seeing wages halted with no guarantee of back pay. These are the people who keep the government functioning and our communities strong. They should not be asked to shoulder the burden caused by this shutdown.

We are now seeing serious disruptions to essential nutrition programs. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the lifeline for 42 million Americans, has now run dry leaving a gap of 3.8 billon meals this November. For every one meal a food bank provides, SNAP provides nine. Already, millions of families, seniors, veterans, and children have lost access to the food they need, and food banks cannot fill that gap.

Food banks like Harvesters — The Community Food Network, are already feeling the impact. More than 200,000 SNAP recipients across their 27-county service area are scrambling to stretch limited resources, and anxiety is rising as families worry about how long they can manage. Food banks and charities are doing everything possible, but we cannot replace lost paychecks or halted federal nutrition benefits.

Every hour matters now. The longer the shutdown continues, the more families will fall into crisis and the harder the recovery will be. Americans should not have to choose between paying rent, filling a prescription, or feeding their children.

I urge you to act immediately and work across party lines to fund the government, protect critical programs like SNAP, and restore stability to the millions of people who are counting on you. No one in America should face hunger because of political gridlock.
